Statement 1:
One of the most common digestive diseases that I know of is lactose intolerance, so I chose it so that I can understand it a little more. Lactose intolerance is caused when the body doesn’t make enough enzyme lactase, the enzyme lactase is what breaks up and digest the lactose. When the lactose isn’t broken up some of the symptoms include diarrhea, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain and gas. Currently the only known cure to being lactose intolerance is to completely cut out diary products or monitor how much you consume. Having a solid diet plan and actually sticking to it can have a huge positive to some who is lactose intolerance just for the simple fact that if you watch how much diary products are in your meal plan you can avoid many uncomfortable situations, if the person completely cuts out diary products they will not have to worry about any of the symptoms at all.

Statement 2:
I choose to do my research on Inflammatory disease such as Crohn’s because I didn’t know how much it affects the body until my sister was diagnosed with chon’s disease at the age of 16. Crohn’s disease is a chronic disease process in which the bowel becomes inflamed, leading to scarring and narrowing of the intestines. Symptoms of Crohn’s are Diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, weight loss, hemorrhoids, abscesses, nausea, and vomiting. The cause for this inflammation is still Unknown; may be an abnormal immune reaction. Treatment includes IV similar to a pain reliver. Modifying a diet could help with recurrences, also known as flare ups. Having a chronic, active disease, such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, tends to increase the body’s requirements for calories, nutrients and energy. During disease flares, it may be difficult to maintain adequate nutrition. Staying away from the saltier foods can help reduce water retention.
