Eng 322
Complete the final project and upload it to the Assignments area of class. It must be a Word document ending in .docx, or if you don’t have Word, please use .rtf. Due Sunday 11:55pm ET. If you choose the “blog” option below, you should also add your entries to the class blog, but this is not mandatory.
This assignment uses Turnitin. As you may be re-using material submitted in an earlier assignment for this class, this assignment has the potential to light up turnitin like a Christmas tree! Save us both a hassle when you submit. In the header material for the essay, briefly note which assignment from this class you are re-using. Then, when I click the Turnitin report, the first thing I see will be “As directed by the assignment instructions, this essay reuses portions of Essay 1 from week 2”.
The objective of the final project is to give you a push towards publication. Choose one of the projects below or develop your own assignment with the help of your instructor.
Option 1: Submit an Essay. To Somebody Else.
Put together an essay portfolio for the strongest essay you have written in this class, as if you will submit it for publication somewhere. Whether you actually do so or not is, in the end, up to you, but it would be a shame to go through so much research and
at least try! The worst any editor can say is, “No”, and if this is the case, you’re no worse off than when you started! Include the following:
The names of three creative nonfiction journals where you wish to submit the piece and a short paragraph (no less than three sentences) explaining why your essay fits with that journal’s content. (These don’t have to be The New Yorker. Indeed, smaller journals are far better avenues for beginning writers.)
Unique cover letters to the appropriate editor of each journal. Literary journal submissions, fiction and nonfiction alike, differ from manuscript-length submissions. Here are some guidelines.

A revised, polished copy of the essay.
A conclusion page of 300-words or more reflecting on the following:
what you have learned throughout the course
how your writing skills and understanding of personal essays has changed
what your strengths and weaknesses are as a writer
what your writers’ workshop experience was like and what you learned from it
what your future plans may be for personal essay writing
Option 2: Blog Your Heart Out
Write a series of three interrelated blog posts. These can be centered around the blog you submitted in week 6, or they can be three new pieces, but they must all share a theme, and each can be no more than 500 words (with a ten word grace).
A unique cover letters to me, written as if I am a publisher considering your work for inclusion in a literary journal. Literary journal submissions, fiction and nonfiction alike, differ from manuscript-length submissions. Here are some guidelines.
A polished copy of the blog series. You may submit this to the class blog, but doing so is not mandatory. If you submit it in the blog area, please, feel free to include images. You
submit it here in the assignments area.
Option 3: Develop a topic of your own with guidance from the instructor
Use the “Final Project Quiz” in week 7 to propose a final project roughly equal in scope to options 1 and 2. The final submission must include some type of creative nonfiction of between 750 and 1500 words in length, as well as the following elements.
A polished copy of the final project.
Litr 202
Your final essay is due at the end of week eight. Write a five to six page essay on the below topic. This assignment must include quotations from the assigned readings to support your ideas. In addition, you must use THREE outside, scholarly sources in this essay. Please also use in-text citations and complete a works cited page, according to MLA guidelines.
In this course, we have read many works of literature from the modern era. However, it is impossible to cover every meaningful work in just eight weeks. Therefore, it is your turn to decide what literary works should be included in LITR202. You may choose to include works that we have read this semester, and you may choose to include additional works of literature that we did not discuss. Did this course ignore a country, a genre, or an author? Create a literary canon that fills those holes. There are a few rules, though.
1) Your essay must include at least four literary works from at least two different countries. These works must have been written during the modern era. These works can be poems, plays, novels, and short stories; however, these works may NOT be films. Most of the literary works should come from this course.
2) Your essay must be five to six pages long and contain at least three peer-reviewed articles. The three peer-reviewed articles is a minimum requirement. To achieve a higher score, you should find a peer-reviewed article for each of the literary works you have decided to include in your essay. Also, you
find a scholarly source that directly focuses on your chosen work(s) that we did not read in this course.
Please send me a message or post in the open forum if you have any questions about this assignment.
Please remember the following:
Avoid any and all summary sites within your essay. This includes Sparknotes, Shmoop, Cliff’s Notes, and Wikipedia.
Use MLA format and citations in this essay. Also, please write this essay using third person.
You may not use any wording from previous essays or forums.
Note that the works cited page and headings are not included in the page count. Please use one-inch margins, do not add extra spaces between paragraphs, and use 12 font Times New Roman.
Scholarly sources generally come from academic journals and have been examined by experts in the field for accuracy. Generally, you will find these in the APUS databases.
Make sure your essay has a clear introduction and thesis statement (topic plus point about that topic) at the bottom of your introduction. The thesis should be based on the readings in this course.
Make sure your body paragraphs are focused on proving your thesis statement. Do not summarize the readings.
Be sure that your thesis expresses an analytical thought and is not just a statement of simple fact or plot summary.
Make sure to have a conclusion that does not bring in new information.
