Introduction to public health | Biology homework help

There are five basic questions that public health officials ask that together make up what is referred to as evidence-based public health approach. These five steps include Problem, Etiology, Recommendations, Implementation, and Evaluation (referred to as the P.E.R.I.E. process) have paved the way for public health issues to be effectively addressed. For the Unit 2 Assignment you will select a public health problem and use the P.E.R.I.E. process to address it.

Unit outcomes addressed in this Assignment:

  • Define and explain the core functions of public health.
  • Explain how evidence-based public health approaches are used to effectively deal with public health problems.
  • Describe the concepts of morbidity and mortality and how they are used to define the burden of diseases.

Course outcome(s) assessed in this Assignment:

PU120-1: Define epidemiological transition and evidence-based public health and their role in the evolution of public health.

Instructions

There are many health problems affecting the public’s health today. It seems that just as health officials get a handle on one concern (polio for example), another rears its ugly head. As you learned through our readings and discussions during Unit 1, over the past couple of decades, in its evolution, public health’s efforts have become evidence-based in both the approaches and interventions used when addressing health concerns.

Compose a critical analysis essay that has a continuous viewpoint, logical order, and organization using the following guidelines:

  • Select a public health concern that interests you (examples include cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, HIV/AIDS, etc.).
  • Provide a description of the chosen health issue.
  • Define epidemiological transition and evidence-based public health. What is their role in addressing your chosen public health concern?
  • In your description of the role of evidence-based public health, use the P.E.R.I.E. approach utilized by public health professionals to discuss the health concern you have selected. As a reminder, the P.E.R.I.E. approach is:
  • Problem: What is the health problem?
  • Etiology: What is/are the contributory cause(s)?
  • Recommendations: What works to reduce the health impacts?
  • Implementation: How can we get the job done?
  • Evaluation: How well does/do the intervention(s) work in practice?

Requirements

  • The essay should be at least 900 words in length.
  • The essay should be properly formatted using APA 6th ed. guidelines, which includes double-spaced 12 point Times New Roman font, 1” margins, a title page, and applicable headers.
  • Include a list of scholarly peer-reviewed sources using APA 6th Edition guidelines for in-text and reference citation style.
  • The essay should have a sustained viewpoint and use Standard American English.
