hofstra eng3200 literature for children and young adults character analysis

Task:
For your term paper, Id like you to examine a main character (MC) in one of our middle-grade (MG) books more closely. In at least three FULL (properly formatted MLA or APA) pages, Id like you to select a character from Freckle Juice, George, or Inside Out & Back Again to examine in-depth, coming to some conclusion about the character that you can support with textual moments (i.e. words and sentences from the book).
A character analysis takes a closer look at ONE character in a book and explains that character using passages from the book to support its claims. There are several aspects of a character that you can look at, but everything must be supported by actual quotes and moments from the text. Here are a few examples of what you could cover in a character analysis:
A characters physical appearance and how that appearance is important to the story
A characters personality and how their personality is important to the story
A characters way of thinking and how their thinking interacts with the story and other characters (these could be things that scare them or things that make them angry or things that empower themhow do they react to the world of their story?)
A characters motivation (what makes them do the things they do) and how that motivation is important to the story
A characters relationships with others and how that creates or solves the conflicts in the story
A characters character arc (how the changed changed from beginning to the end of the story)
You obviously do not need to cover every one of these things, nor would you want to unless you cover them all FULLY. Instead, pick a couple of these things and focus your analysis on that. The most important thing here is that you look at ONE character and make claims about them then support those claims by showing your reader sections of the book that lead you to think the way you do.
