Powhatan v. massasoit | History homework help

This assignment has two parts.  Answer each of the sets of questions in about 3/4 of a paragraph, using 12 Point New Times Roman.  The paper should be about 1 1/2 pages.

Paragraph One:  Contrast the decisions made by Powhatan and eventually Opechancanough (see p. 49) towards the settlers in Jamestown to the early decisions made by Massasoit and Squanto and the Pilgrims.  How did the two decisions differ?  What would be the political considerations of the Native Americans?  How could allowing the colonists to stay be a good thing?  How could allowing the colonists to stay be a bad thing?

Paragraph Two: The Iron Law of Unintended Consequences is a phrase that is used usually towards legislation, but that can be applied to so many other things.  This refers to unexpected results of decisions that were never foreseen.  Though this is usually defined with legislation, this can be applied to many other things.  For instance, in bringing over the bird guano that farmers thought would help more potatoes to grow, the ships were carrying the potato blight in the fertilizer, which would decimate Irish potato crops.  The unintended consequences would be that in hoping to help their crops with fertilizer, they actually were destroying it.

Think of an unintended consequence that a modern day decision has brought about.  (Please do not write about your own life and a good (or bad) decision that you made and how this had an unintended consequences).  Write about a decision that has been made, legislation that has passed, or an event that has occurred, and write about an unintended consequence that has come from this.
