Adaptation AnalysisChoose a film adaptation of a literary work, and analyze it. You may choose an adaptation that was developed as a feature film, a made-for-TV film (cable or network), or a television series. Your analysis will take the form of a 3-5 page written report (Word document), or a 10-15 slide PowerPoint presentation (using Notes pages when necessary). Your analysis should examine how the director, screenwriter, actors and production team brought the story to the screen.What were the filmmakers’ choices in setting, camera angles, lighting, special effects, dialect, costuming?How did the screenwriter do in terms of adapting the story – what changes, additions, or deletions were made to the original text, and were they successful?Why were these choices made by the filmmaking team, and what effect do they have on the viewer?How are readers of the original text likely to respond (or how have they responded historically – you may include critical/audience reactions for support if you wish)?Your main focus for analysis should be to ask, is this a successful adaptation, and if so, why? If this is not a successful adaptation, what are its flaws? What changes might have made it better?You may want to consider these questions:Is the director known for a certain style that did or did not lend itself to this project? Was his/her vision for the film clear? Was it well executed? Would another director have been a better choice?Do you approve of the casting? Why or why not? If you don’t approve, what better casting decisions should have been made?Is the theme of the original text brought to life?
